Tropical Storm in Tustin?

A Severe Tropical Storm in Southern California?
In 1939 a tropical storm made a direct hit on Southern California in Long Beach, killing forty-five people on land. This storm was so devastating that the National Weather Service opened a Southern California office in 1940. The Pacific hurricane season begins on June 1, in the Central Pacific region, and ends on the last day of November each year. California ocean temperatures are too cold to sustain a hurricane in Southern California, but if our ocean temperatures continue to rise, the possibility of hurricane remnants making their way up the California coastline will increase, and Southern California could be hit by another strong tropical storm like the one that landed in 1939.
