Algae
Algae is naturally occurring. It enjoys a life of moisture and sunshine. It is a moss-like plant that moves via airborne spores. It is more common in humid climates and commonly becomes an issue on shingles and exterior walls and walkways that stay damp. It is typically green to dark green. Algae may grow in well-lit bathrooms as well.
Mold
Mold prefers damp, dark warm areas that are not ventilated well, such as within walls, behind or under furniture, wet flooring, attics, and basements. Mold needs damp organic matter to grow on such as paper, dirt, wood. It does not grow on inorganic matter such as concrete, glass, metal, synthetic carpet, etc. Mold may be present on inorganic materials if there is organic matter on the surface to feed on.
